In AD 325, the Council of Nicaea was organised by the Roman Emperor Constantine to lay the foundations for the functioning of the Christian Church.
The official history chronicles that during the era of Christian persecutions, Emperor Constantine abandoned the Roman religion to convert to the nascent religion of Christianity. Therefore, he brought an end to nearly three hundred years of persecution, and contributed to the prodigious growth in the number of believers.
